In 1257 BC, Pharaoh Ramses II built two temples in the land of Nubia on the west bank of the Nile in southern Egypt. Today these temples are known as Abu Simbel.

The temples were carved out of solid rock!!! Ramses dedicated the temples to the sun gods Amon-Re and Re-Horakhte.

The temples were found in 1813 and were first explored in 1817 by Giovanni Battista Belzoni, who was an Egyptologist.

Today Abu Simbel is a tourist spot. Maybe you will visit there one day!
